Op Oost” is your conscious gastronomic destination on the Texel Wad. A place where we want to connect you with yourself and nature. Where we don't just work in season, but move with the seasons. The ecosystems and therefore the various elements of nature take a central role in everything we do. Walk with us through the different ecosystems and discover how nature shows, hears, tastes and feels.
On the eastside of our island you will find the Texel Wadden Sea. Vast vistas in many shades of grey, framed by dreamy clouds and fresh breezes. Salty herbs and sunrise colour the Wad and the various seaweeds that are home to our shellfish. The Wadden dyke, Schorren, Utopia and Ceres...
For us, the East symbolises the element water. The Wadden, a place where you remember who you are and dream about tomorrow. Where you feel like a child again, picking oysters and searching for wild salty herbs. The place where new adventures begin.
The place where you enter our island. Where the dunes change from heathland to forest. Hilly landscapes of sand and grass, the connection from East to West, Wadden Sea to North Sea. In just a few steps, enter a different world between beach, forest and heathland.
Walking through the pine forest along the crackling path, we are enchanted by the light, birdsong and scents of wood, pine cones and fallen leaves. Earthy hues decorate the path, the cracks in the trunk bring you into the moment. The transition from spring to summer is visible, palpable. It brings peace, calm and at the same time the need to take the next step.
On the other side of our island you will find our golden coast. Endless sandy beaches lined with wild dune landscapes and rolling grasslands. The tide, influenced by the moon, determines what you experience. A pier covered with seaweed and shrieking birds, looking for the fresh mussels and crabs. The shells break under your feet and dune pools full of secrets. The West harbours many faces.
The setting sun colours this moment. The day comes to an end on the other side of our island.
The polder, fields and meadows. But certainly also the “tuunwallen”. Not created by nature, but now part of the Dutch and also Texel's traditional landscape. Wild flowers colour the edges of the fields and insects wander merrily about. The “tuunwallen” harbour many potent wild herbs. A windmill characterises the horizon, where farmers welcome their harvest.
The meadow birds let us know what season is coming, the fields colour along with the cornflower, poppy and reeds. Wild herbs adorn the roadside and the authentic Texel garden walls. Get lost among the many fields and discover a whole new edible world.
An authentic Texel farmhouse, a stone's throw from the Wadden Sea, is home to our intimate boutique hotel with twelve Green Key suites and fine dining restaurant. Surrounded by an edible garden with herbs, flowers and a salty vegetable garden, you will discover a different, authentic island vibe.
Skip the beaten track, explore our island together and feel like a true local. From salty wild-picking to private oyster tours. “op Oost” is a place where salty & sweet meet, tranquility and quality prevail and nature has the highest word.
Our 'Oostories' are stories from ourselves, our guests and partners and can be about anything that happens on and around our Texel based boutique hotel. Stories, “op Oost”, that is. We hope you enjoy reading them.
We really appreciate meeting you in either our hotel or our restaurant. Follow us on instagram, sign up for the updates by email to stay up to date with the new menu, to stay up to date on what the chickens have experienced today and what nature is serving at the moment.
