There's a rhythm older than we are. One that doesn't tick like a clock, but that you feel. It's the rhythm of ebb and flow, of sun and rain, of sowing and harvesting. At Oost, we live with that rhythm.

Guests often ask me: "How did Oost ever come to be?" The answer is always simpler than people expect: it lies close by. In nature. By looking, listening, feeling. Everything we do grows from that.

Here, on the eastern side of Texel, nature doesn't just determine the view, but also our inner compass. The moon dictates when we harvest and plant, her position shows us when something is ripe — not just the fruit, but our ideas too. We follow the seasons, the wind directions, the movement of the elements. Each element contributes to how we cook, how we create, how we live. And therefore how we welcome you as our guest.

Our rooms aren't a refuge that shuts nature out, but a resting place where you recognise her. The scents of wild herbs, the sounds of birds upon waking, the flavours of a dinner that brings ecosystems to life. You feel the connection with nature and this is what it means to be at Oost.

We invite you to Oost to pause for a moment

To listen again to what your body already knows, but from which your mind may have wandered. Here you don't need to 'do' anything, simply to be. And sometimes that's the hardest thing there is. But also the most beautiful.

When you go home again, we hope you'll take something of that rhythm with you. Perhaps you'll plant a handful of herbs on your windowsill. Perhaps you'll eat with the seasons more often. Perhaps one day you'll feel the wind change, and suddenly know what's needed or which choice you might make.

Because nature isn't a destination, she's everywhere. She speaks softly, but if you listen, she'll show you the way.

See you soon, at Oost

Valerie

P.S. How to take the feeling of Oost home with you

You don't need to live on an island to live closer to nature. Small choices make a big difference. Here are a few simple ways you can experience a piece of Oost at home too:

Go exploring
Explore your neighbourhood and let yourself be amazed by even the smallest bits of nature in your street or area. From the first daffodil to the last blossom, the first ducklings to the final bloom.

Grow something edible
Even on a windowsill you can grow rocket, basil or radishes. Choose organic seeds, use good soil, and above all give love.

Choose consciously with the seasons
Print out a seasonal calendar and hang it on your fridge. By eating locally and seasonally, you're not only supporting farmers and the environment, but you'll also taste more intensely.

Follow your rhythm, not your diary
Plan a day without to-do's for once. Let yourself be guided by what you feel. Go outside, put your phone away.
